Tropical Cyclone Outlook for the Western Region
Issued at 2:00 pm WST on Thursday 23 March 2023
for the period until midnight WST Sunday 26 March 2023.

Existing Cyclones in the Western Region:
Nil.

Potential Cyclones:

A weak tropical low (20U) is forming northwest of the Kimberley and will move to the west southwest well north of the Pilbara coast over coming days. The low is likely to remain weak and stay off the coast. By Monday 27 March there is a slight chance that the low moves to the south southeast towards the Pilbara coast and develops. Even if it does not intensify it is forecast to bring rainfall to the PIlbara next week.

The risk of this system being a tropical cyclone increases to low from Monday 27 March to Wednesday 29 March.

Sunday:Very Low

Another low may develop in the far northwestern part of the region west of Cocos (Keeling) islands over the weekend. At this stage it is likely to remain weak and not develop significantly.

for the period until midnight WST Monday 27 March 2023.

Existing Cyclones in the Western Region:
Nil.

Potential Cyclones:

A weak tropical low (20U) forming west of the Kimberley is expected to remain as a weak system during the weekend, while moving west southwestwards over waters off the Pilbara coast. By Monday 27 March, there is a chance that the low may develop with increasing thunderstorm activity and turn south southeast, towards the coast. The low may bring rain areas and some winds to the PIlbara coast early next week.

The risk of this system being a tropical cyclone is Low for Monday 27 March and Tuesday 28 March.

Existing Cyclones in the Western Region:
Nil.

Potential Cyclones:

A weak tropical low (20U) has formed in the Indian Ocean, to the west of the Kimberley. It is expected to remain as a weak system while moving west southwest, off the Pilbara coast during the weekend.

From Monday 27 March onwards, the low may turn southeast, towards the coast. This may bring rain areas and some winds to the PIlbara coast early next week. The risk of this system being a tropical cyclone is Low for Monday 27 March and Tuesday 28 March.

A tropical low may form in the far northwestern part of the region, west of Cocos (Keeling) Islands mid to late next week or over the weekend. The low is expected to slowly move southwards while remaining as a weak system. The risk of the tropical low becoming a cyclone is considered very low, possibly increasing to a Low next weekend.
